Go look at where it stood in terms of the senators, house members, state legislatures and R-appointed judges following the 2008 election vs. now. THAT was a low point. Today, the R's are the majority party at the state level, just picked up seats in the House, have built a 6-3 USSC majority (sort of) and the Senate is a coin-flip.
Leftist/Dem policies are unpopular, and very few people actually voted "for" Biden*/Harris, who are both unpopular as individual politicians. Biden had to be installed as both nominee and President, and Harris couldn't even make it to Iowa in her own primary campaign. This election was just a referendum on Trump and, as such, the incoming admin is weak, as are the Dem congressional majorities.
The Dems were annihilated in 2010 following just two years of their leftist crap and never recovered. If the Dems revert back to those policies, as they almost certainly will, they will get annihilated again in 2022.
In 2024, they will likely be left with running the hapless Kamala Harris against a MAGA Rep candidate with all the popular R policies, but without Trump's personal baggage. I think the Rep takes that pretty easily. Obama was able to win a second term due to his personal popularity/charisma and Romney's fecklessness, but Biden/Harris won't have the same advantages.
My three caveats would be the following:
1) If the Dems legalize 10M-30M illegal alien voters, all bets are off.
2) If the R's further alienate the base, by, for example, impeaching Trump or fucking with him any further, they're done.
3) If further vote fraud-facilitation measures are enacted more widely across the country and/or not corrected where they already exist, all bets are off, although I think the Stupid Party will at least be a bit better prepared next time, regardless.
No offense to you personally, but "Never-Trump Republicans" are not necessary to win. The MAGA side of the party should continue to make inroads into minority communities by supporting the issues above -- in particular, strong borders. So, any Never-Trump Reps lost will be replaced by a new constituency, IMO.
Good questions -- thanks for starting this thread. [Post edited by Los Angeles Hoo at 01/20/2021 6:31PM]
